Principles of interior design
There are five basic well known principles of interior
design. It is necessary to understand that these are simply the
principles and how you are going to apply them is your own choice.
There are no fixed rules. It is obvious that there can be some
subjective element in the definitions involved here. If you talk of
balance or harmony, or unity, everybody will have different idea about
it. There can be two different ideas about the harmony. But there
should be some harmony in your interior design. This applies to all the
principles of interior design discussed in this article.
The first principle of interior design will be unity. Your whole house
is total one unit. There are different spaces they are interconnected
by using stairways or corridors. The elements of interior design used
in all these rooms and spaces interconnecting them should compliment
each other. This unity does not mean you should use same elements in
each room or the spaces joining them. It means all these spaces as a
whole should give you a feeling of one unit of interior design and not
that of different units of interior design joined together without any
purpose. The color will play an important role in creating one single
composition out of these different rooms and spaces joining
design. It is necessary to understand that these are simply the
principles and how you are going to apply them is your own choice.
